Artist's Description
The New Orleans Rhythm Kings took the jagged sound of the Original Dixieland Jass Band to the next step in the evolution of early jazz. They were a big influence on young Bix Beiderbecke and many others.
About Mel Thompson
As a life-long fan of things vintage - movies, music, fashions, popular art and culture - it was natural that these people and things are the principal subjects of my work. I got many of my ideas from old photographs, ads, sheet music, magazines and other found and discovered treasures. These works were done over a number of years as I explored more and more wonderful images and ideas. I'm also adding images from my own collection of sheet music, which I've selected with an eye for design, movie tie-ins, portraits of celebrities, or just some unexplained appeal or charm.
